Just a couple of notes about the accident as there have been many questions about it. We are not sure why it happened so I cannot comment.
According to the sheriff, an active ambulance was traveling with lights and no siren eastbound on M-59 at 70 mph (the speed limit is 55 mph). Dad would normally turn west onto this road traveling north to go home. The street that Dad was on is controlled by a stop sign and M-59 does not stop.
Again, we are not sure why, but Dad's car hit the passenger door of the ambulance and the rear "box" of the ambulance then hit the front-end of Dad's car, spinning him 760 degrees. The sheriff department was great helping us to understand the accident and for keeping us informed along the way. They stated that engine components were thrown from the vehicle as a result of the impact force.
That was the accident. We are focused on Dad's recovery so keep those kind thoughts, words, and prayers coming.

I am so sorry to hear of Karl's accident. Please let Karl know that I enjoy playing euchre with him and will look forward to the time when we can play together again. I think he still holds the record for the most lone hands in one game ever! My prayers are with all of you.

Mike, Erin, Shirley, and the whole Girardi Family,
I am keeping "Karl with a K" and your whole family in my prayers. If there is any way that I can help you with anything....food, housekeeping, errands etc, please let me know. Please tell Karl that I am looking forward to our next Euchre game.

Mike, Jeff, Nancy, Dave and all your families,
Sorry to hear about your dad's (he's never been anything but Mr. Gerardi to me) accident, and he's in my constant prayers. I'm sure he's too tough not to pull through this and make a full recovery! Thanks for doing this blog update.
