The doctors performed the bronchoscopy this afternoon. He was still feeling the effect of the sedation this evening from the procedure.
While his left lung sustained damage from the accident, the doctors were surprised to find the right lung with quite a bit of foreign material. They are putting a sample into a culture to determine what it is and bumping up his antibiotics in the meantime to combat it. If his lungs are no clearer by Monday, they are planning on doing the tracheotomy then. This will move the ventilator from his mouth and to also make it easier for Dad to cough up the gunk in his lungs.
