I talked to my Dad's nurse this morning. They were able to wean him from the medicine they use to elevate his blood pressure. His still has an elevated temperature that started Jan 7. They have found some yellow mucus in his lungs and have sent the samples for testing; hopefully it is not pneumonia.
He is still a long way from getting off of the ventilator. With all of the trauma in his chest area, he will need assistance with breathing for a while. His blood gases would need indicate he can support himself too.
Once he can support his own breathing he can have his pain medicine reduced with use of epidural anesthesia for the rib pain.
I will be at the hospital later today to check in on him. He is still not conscious or able talk to folks and he is still in a critical state. Quiet rest is still the best for him at this time.
I will provide an update later today. Thank you to all for your support.
Hang in there Dad, they are trying to provide you plenty of rope (an inside joke for those of you know his "humor"). :)
